LANGE first aid from frst to last word. USMLE world question bank and few notes from my seniors. one most important thing at the test date is to keep urself motivated till the last block and never think about any question already done in the previous blocks.best of luck to all giving step one in next few days.

Kaplan lN (2 times), 1st aid is a must. usmleworld nbme test. The reason for this low score is poor time management durnig the exam. Time ran out of me and i missed about 15 questions that i didn't answer.

STUDY MATERIAL Path - Robbins and Cotrans Pathology, Edward F. Goljan's review of Pathology, WebPath Physio - Kaplan Physiology, Guyton's review of Physiology For Everything else I used Kaplan books Did not use the videos except for Statistics and some Pathology. First Aid (very useful) QUESTION BANKS USMLE WORLD - Downloaded off the net, later subscribed for the latest edition NBME - Downloaded off the net GOLJAN - End of book Q's. Some 150 of them. GUYTON'S REVIEW of PHYSIO - was full of questions WEBPATH had some questions too. KAPLAN QBOOK PREPARATION Started very slow, around the middle of second year MBBS. Initially reading Goljan only along with Robbins. I feel it is very important to study Robbins, it will give you a better understanding of the subject and an edge over the others. Took me around 5 months to study Goljan, although it can be completed much earlier. Then I started with the Kaplan books. They don't need a lot of time. The material is concise and vivid enough to understand and study everything at a fair pace. I completed my syllabus only by march this year, when i started revising. Revised Goljan the most. All the while solving the pirated version of UW that i had. Did it nearly three times. Also did Kaplan QBook. By the end of August, i had completed 2 revisions of all the subjects and done a good deal of questions. Then i subscribed for the legitimate edition of UW. Had a lot of repeat questions; no wonder I scored 81. Last Two Weeks - Completed one more revision of all subjects, revised the UW notes, did some NBME forms (they were a little easy), then stuck to FIRST AID for the last few days. Finished it fairly quickly, had time to revise it too. LAST DAY PREPARATION Slept most of the time. Saw some Manchester United videos. Read some First Aid. Prayed and Slept (with a lot of difficulty). EXAM DAY Woke up at 6. Bathed and freshened up peacefully. Prepared some sandwiches, had some for breakfast and packed some for lunch. My friend dropped me at the centre at around 8. At the Centre i was the only usmle examinee, everybody else was there for gre. The Centre was comfortable, the staff was very professional and guiding me at every step. EXAM STARTED. Did three blocks in a row. Took a 9 minute break, had a sandwich and a red bull(really works). Two more blocks. Then an 8 minute block, another red bull. Then the last two blocks. The questions i guess were similar to UW, although the computer screen was identical to UW. I was in too much of a daze to note what subject the questions were from, i just know that there were many pictures and graphs, and three audio questions. EXAM OVER. Came out tired and depressed. Didn't feel too good about the test. Felt the same for the next three weeks, until the results came. COMMENTS I Suggest starting early and preparing slowly. No need for coaching and stuff. All things are available on the net. Do as many revisions as possible, as many questions as possible. Never wrong to repeat the same set of questions over and over again. Have Faith in God, He will never let go. Believe in yourself. Best of Luck!!

I borrowed Kaplan review materials from a friend who took it earlier. Mistakes: I didn't know what to expect from USMLE because people seem to hide their experiences and not help other aspiring residents. My reviews were inefficient and slow, I didn't understand 70% of what I am supposed to read, and I my heart was not really set in the USMLE because I was only informed about taking it a week before I was supposed to submit my application for a local residency. Suggestions: Use the Kaplan review center, preferably with videos and live lecture. Most importantly, put your heart and soul in reviewing ANY steps of the USMLE. Chances are, if you're not really interested, your scores will be low.

Kaplan notes, video lectures, first aid, kaplan qbank, student consult qbank and uworld. It's important to understand the basics as well as to grasp the clinical concept because most ques are clinical oriented. Did as many ques as possible. On the exam day, left 1 ques on 1st block because i spent too much time on some ques. There're some ques in which 2 choices are possible but hard to choose one definitely. It's crucial to keep yourself calm during the exam day and don't spend more than 2 min on any ques or you'll miss 1 or 2 ques at the end. No one can answer all ques right so it's important to calmly apply all your knowledge during the exam.

1. Kaplan notes a year before, Kaplan QBank questions since 9 months before the exam, usmleworld pathology questions 2 weeks before exam, first aid (2006) 3 months before exam. Did at least ~2000 questions all together. 2. Didn't get much time (1-2 hr/day) to study the materials because of graduate work, but was confident enough in last few weeks to score in 90s. 3. Test center was reasonably clean and little colder. First block went well, 2nd block was nightmare, 3-6 blocks came as sequential little good then little bad and last block was pretty easy. Did a lot of marking on questions i was even a little bit unsure, on average saved 5-10 minutes before the block ends and used this time to review the doubtful answers and correcting them. Last block saved 15+ minutes. Took 3 breaks, after 2nd, 4th and 6th block. I had ~20 minutes breaktime on hand at the time of leaving the center. 4. Practice a lot of questions - consistently, unlike me. Buy QBanks and do them a couple of times if possible. Take your time.

1)kaplan,FA 2)use kaplan to know whats expected from you and then check out your understanding of the theory by using UW. 3)Took breaks after every block except between 3rd and 4th.Did bad on the 4th.If u think that a break is necessary then take one, even for 5 mins.Have a glass of water and wipe your face with cold water if it relaxes you.I had 10 mins of my break time remaining at the end. Finally stay cool, you are doing good.Always believe that this is your best exam, nobody is doing better than you on this set.

1.Study materials used : Kaplan Lecture notes (except path)- First reading + Revision 1 + Revision 2 + Revision 3 Goljan for path- First reading + Revision 1 Video tapes & Goljan audio : Listened Once First Aid- Read and revised once before the exam Additional references : Anatomy - Chaurasia (the text book which I read for MBBS) Embryology - I B Singh (the one which I read for MBBS) Pretest MCQs for Behavioural Science Katzung MCQs at the end of each chapter for Pharmacology (recommended) Pretest MCQs for Genetics (not recommended by me) NMS MCQs for Immunology MCQs : USMLE world : Not available at that time Q book : 72% (Completed 100 %) Q bank : Did not count (incomplete) Kap Simulated : Had time to practice only 1 block- 78% (39/50) USMLE CD : Had time to practice only 1 block - 84% (42/50) NBME (recommended) : Did not have time to take this test Exam experience: Most (about 75%) of my exam questions were from Path and pharm. If you have read Goljan thoroughly, you would definitely do well in Path. Goljan is highly recommended. Most of the concepts mentioned in Goljan are tested in the real exam. For pharm, Kaplan is sufficient. I also had a lot of tough questions from Immunology and Genetics. I could hardly answer questions from Genetics. Prepare well for Genetics and Immunology. Anatomy is definitely low yield as mentioned by most of the exam takers. But do not neglect it completely for that. If you need 99, you gotta read all the subjects thoroughly. My suggestions for exam takers: There are a lot of books available in the market for step 1. Choose the most appropriate one which suits your study technique and stick to it till the end. Frequently changing your study material only wastes your time. Revise what you have read again and again. Step 1 is very dry when compared to other USMLE STEPs. So repeated revisions are necessary. Practice MCQs as much as possible. Stay away from huge textbooks. Read only review books or lecture notes. Watch Kaplan videos at least once. Goljan audio is a must. USMLE WORLD is highly recommended by recent exam takers though I did not have the opportunity to practice UW for Step 1 as it was not available at that time.
